In August 2024, UNECE officially released two new editions of United Nations global technical regulations, namely UN GTR No. 21 Measurement of System Power of Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Pure Electric Vehicles with Multi-Motor Drive - Electric Drive Vehicle Power Measurement (DEVP) and UN GTR No. 22 Durability of Onboard Battery for Electric Vehicles. The new edition of UN GTR No. 21 mainly modifies and improves the test conditions for power testing, and adds a power test method for highly integrated hybrid electric drive systems.
The main amendments to the new edition of UN GTR No. 22 are as follows:
Complements the durability requirements for on-board batteries for light electric trucks
Note:
OVC-HEV: off-vehicle charging hybrid electric vehicle
PEV: pure electric vehicle
Adding a verification method for virtual miles
Vehicles designed for V2X or Category 2 vehicles not used for towing purposes generally calculate equivalent virtual miles. In this case, it is necessary to verify the virtual miles. The newly added verification method clarifies that the number of samples to be verified is at least one and no more than four vehicles, and gives the verification procedures and criteria for determining the results.
Note: V2X: Use traction batteries to meet external power and energy needs, such as
V2G(Vehicle-to-Grid): Using the traction batteries to stabilize the power grids
V2H(Vehicle-to-Home): Using traction batteries as residential energy storage for local optimization or as an emergency power supply in case of power outages.
V2L(Vehicle-to-Load, For connecting loads only): For use in case of power failure and/or outdoor activities in normal circumstances.
Tips
UN GTR No.22 regulations have currently been adopted by battery/electric vehicle compliance requirements in many countries such as the European Union and North America. It is suggested to follow up the updates if there are corresponding export need.
