On November 29, 2021, the SII (Standards Institution of Israel) published mandatory requirements for secondary batteries with an implementation date of 6 months after the publication date (i.e. May 28, 2022). However, until April 2023, the SII still stated that it would not accept the applications for approval, alternatively, a declaration letter from the importer stating that the product complies with IEC 62133:2017 is enough to proceed the importing affairs.
Until this year, the SII send notices to the local customs that safety import approvals are required when importing secondary batteries to Israel. That means in the following days, it would be necessary to undergo standardized testing and apply for a safety approval. The detailed process is described below:
- Testing Standards: SI 62133 part 2: 2019 (aligned to IEC 62133-2:2017); SI 62133 part 1: 2019 (aligned to IEC 62133-1:2017); (With a CB certificate, all tests can be passed directly)
- Information requirements: product pictures, reports and certificates of IEC 62133, local importer’s name and contact information (it is recommended to provide the product’s customs code, the factory’s ISO 9001 certificate and product labels to ensure the smooth issuance of certificates);
- Sample requirements: 1 battery sample (The sample will be send to the SII local laboratory for visual inspection);
- Lead time: 5-6 working weeks (Begin with sample’s departure and end with certificate’s issuance);
- Licensee: Local importer can be the temporary licensee;
- After completing the certification, the SII standard LOGO should be marked on the product;
