Korea Agency of Technology and Standards has released notification 2023-0027 on March 20, stating that KC 62619 will implement the new version. The new version will take effect on that day, and the old version KC 62619:2019 will be invalid on March 21st 2024. In previous issuance, we have shared the differences on new and old KC 62619. Today we will share the guidance on KC 62619:2023 certification.
Scope
- Stationary ESS system/ Mobile ESS system
- Large capacity power bank (like power source for camping)
- Mobile EV charger
Capacity should be within 500Wh to 300 kWh.
Exclusion: batteries for vehicle (traction batteries), aeroplane, railway and ship.
Transition period
There’s transition period from March 21st 2023 to March 21st.
Acceptance of application
KTR will not release the latest version of KC 62619 certificate until March 21st 2024. Before the date:
1、Products under scope of old version standard (which includes only ESS cell and stationary ESS system) can release KC 62619:2019 certificate. If there’s no technological changeover, it’s not necessary to upgrade to KC 62619:2023 after March 21st 2024. However, market surveillance will be conducted with latest standard as reference.
2、You may apply for certificate by sending samples to KTR for local test. However the certificate will not release until March 21st 2024.
Samples required
Local test:
Cell: 21 samples for cylindrical cells are required. If cells are prismatic, then 24 pcs are needed.
Battery system: 5 are needed.
CB acceptance (after March 21st 2024): 3 pcs of cell and 1 pcs of system is required.
