EN/IEC 62368-1 will replace EN/IEC 60950-1 & EN/IEC 60065

According to the European electrotechnical commission (CENELEC), the low voltage directive EN/IEC 62368-1:2014 (second edition) corresponding to replace the old standard, the low voltage directive (EU LVD) will stop the EN/IEC 60950-1 & EN/IEC 60065 standard as the basis of compliance, and EN/IEC 62368-1:14 will take its place, namely: since December 20, 2020, EN 62368-1:2014 standard will be enforcing.

Scope applied to EN/IEC 62368-1:

1. Computer peripherals: mouse and keyboard, servers, computers, routers, laptops/desktops and power supplies for their applications;

2. Electronic products: loudspeakers, speakers, headphones, home theater series, digital cameras, personal music players, etc.

3. Display devices: monitors, TELEVISIONS and digital projectors;

4. Communications products: network infrastructure equipment, wireless and mobile phones, and similar communications devices;

5. Office equipment: photocopiers and shredders;

6. Wearable devices: Bluetooth watches, Bluetooth headsets and other electronic and electrical

products.

Therefore, all new EN and IEC certification assessments will be conducted in accordance with EN/IEC 62368-1.This process can be viewed as a one-time complete reassessment; CB certified equipment will need to update the report and certificate.

Manufacturers need to check the standards to determine if changes to existing equipment are needed, although many devices that passed the old standard may also pass the new standard, but risks still exist. We recommend that manufacturers begin the evaluation process as soon as possible, as the product launch may be hampered by the lack of updated documentation.
