▍What is TISI Certification?

TISI is short for Thai Industrial Standards Institute, affiliating to Thailand Industry Department. TISI is responsible for formulating the domestic standards as well as participating in international standards formulation and supervising the products and qualified assessment procedure to ensure the standard compliance and recognition. TISI is a governmental authorized regulatory organization for compulsory certification in Thailand. It is also responsible for formation and management of standards, lab approval, personnel training and product registration. It is noted that there is no non-governmental compulsory certification body in Thailand.

There is voluntary and compulsory certification in Thailand. TISI logos (see Figures 1 and 2) are allowed to use when products meet the standards. For products that have not yet been standardized, TISI also implements product registration as a temporary means of certification.

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is a U.S. government agency that protects the American
public from products that may present safety hazards. This independent regulatory body focuses on
consumer items that pose an unreasonable risk of fire, chemical exposure, electrical malfunction, or
mechanical failure. Products that expose children to danger and injury are a particularly high priority for
the CSPC. In addition to investigating complaints from consumers concerning unsafe products, this
group also issues recalls of products that may be defective or that violate mandatory standards.
From July 29, 2019, CPSC began to work closely with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to
identify and inspect imported consumer goods shipments (For products defined by certain HTS codes
listed below, such as children’s toys, batteries), and participated in One U.S. Government Notification
Messaging at Import (1 USG NM), in order to better assist the customs in reviewing compliant products,
CPSC updates its coordination process every year. On March 22 this year, it has adjusted its review time
and conditions in its updated review plan which allows for faster review by CPSC of low ‐ risk shipments at the port, however the premise is that the applicant must provide the estimated time of arrival
EDA in advance and the entry records like CPSC compliance or non-compliance record data in advance (≥3 days) of EDA.
