BIS released a gazette on September 16, 2020, with two points to be notified.
1. Postponement of enforcement timeline for CRO IV products
MeitY has determined to extend the implementation timeline of the order for CRO IV from Oct 1, 2020 to
April 1, 2021.
2. Revision of Product Category Name against SI No. 45The entry ” Standalone LED Modules for General Lighting “against SI No. 45 of column (2) of gazette dated April 1, 2020 shall be substituted by Independent LED Modules for General Lighting.
MCM suggestion:
MeitY’s determination in concerning extension of order for CRO VI for 6 months is a relief for
manufacturers selling those products on Indian market. However, as of the press date, the Indian government continues to implement “licensing control” on foreign manufacturers, especially Chinese manufacturers. Only registration applications submitted by August 31 are currently allowed for go ahead, while later applications are on hold still. Given the Indian current Covid-19 situation and uncertain national policies, it is recommended to submit products in demand for testing and registration as soon as possible, instead of slowing down certification arrangement thereafter.
